So sometime last year, I got and played a German-made point-and-click adventure game called Deponia. There are three games in the series, and I got all three as a bundle. I really loved them and the story was fantastic. Months later, I got the fourth game and played it to completion as well. And that's when I truly fell in love with the whole series. The story, the characters, the art, the music and sounds—I love every aspect of Deponia. The ending was sad...the ending was very sad...but it doesn't diminish how much I love these games.
Deponia is set in a world of trash with a very dystopian/steampunk look and feel. The main character, Rufus, is a self-centred egomaniac that wants nothing more than to escape his junk-heap hometown called Kuvaq. His dream is to reach and live on Elysium, a posh and elegant floating city that orbits the planet. But his plans to reach Elysium always end in failure...and much self-injury...except of course when you start playing and move the story forward. He meets a beautiful Elysian woman and falls in love (as much as an ego-centric jackass like him can since he loves himself more, it seems), and he tries to win her favor and return her to her home on Elysium...and he also wants to go there too, as part of the deal. The story then spans for three games. There was never a plan for any more games, but with the outpouring of fans who were (shall I say) "unhappy" with how the third game ended, they moved forward with a fourth game. I hope they do more...but I really think they're done now. Sadly.
I've been looking for art and fan fiction for Deponia, but there isn't a whole lot out there to be found. I'm not surprised as the game isn't exactly a huge triple-A production. But I do wish there was more. I did draw one picture of the main character, Rufus, and I did outline one concept for a story that I'll probably never write. Rufus is the first picture I've sat down and drawn for several years now. But that's all I did, so...
Anyway, I love the games so much that I'm recording gameplay footage and editing it together to make a sort of "movie". I already have over two hours of a final production done. When I'm finished, I'm going to attempt to upload it to YouTube, so anyone can watch it. I'll post a link here so anyone on dA can see it too. It's giving me something to do, and I'm basking in the glory that is Deponia. XD
Sorry my description of the games aren't that great, but hopefully it'll pique your interest to have a look at least. If point-and-click adventures are something you like, then I really suggest you check these games out. The developer, Daedalic Entertainment, is a great company with other great games, and they deserve recognition.
